Due to some changes in the new version of Google Chrome browser, some html tags must be modified in the webpages related to NetDania applets in order to ensure the compatibility with the new Chrome 8.
Please find below a description of the changes to be applied.
In order to run Java applets, different browsers use different html tags to launch these applets.
Usually the most browsers implement the applet and object tags.
To use the right html tag for each browser the NetDania applets are integrated in a web page using JavaScript. We use a browser detection script and depending on the detection result we use the appropriate tag for each browser to get our applets running.
The latest version of Google Chrome( 8.0.552.23 ) seems not to support anymore the object tag for running Java applets. Till now we were using the object tag for Google Chrome, but since this is not working anymore we have to change it.
That is why we have to use the applet tag instead of the object tag to get the applets running in Google Chrome.
For example:
We had a script that checked the browser that looked like this:
BrowserDetect.init();
var appletTagStart = "";
if(BrowserDetect.browser == "Safari" || BrowserDetect.browser == "Explorer" || BrowserDetect.browser == "Google")
appletTagStart = "< object codetype=\"application/java\" /*...................other attributes..................*/>";
else
appletTagStart = "< applet /*..............................other attributes...................................*/>";
//the rest of applet
This script has to be modified for Google Chrome not to use anymore the object tag.
The new script should look like this (the text in red must be removed):
BrowserDetect.init();
var appletTagStart = "";
if(BrowserDetect.browser == "Safari" || BrowserDetect.browser == "Explorer")
appletTagStart = "< object codetype=\"application/java\" /*...................other attributes..................*/>";
else
appletTagStart = "< applet /*..............................other attributes...................................*/>";
//the rest of applet
If you use javascript for closing the applet tags like this:
if(BrowserDetect.browser == 'Safari' || BrowserDetect.browser == 'Explorer' || BrowserDetect.browser == "Google")
document.writeln('');
else
document.writeln('');
you have to replace it with the script below:
if(BrowserDetect.browser == 'Safari' || BrowserDetect.browser == 'Explorer')
document.writeln('');
else
document.writeln('');
These changes are intended to be made by a software developer.
If your scripts are not identical to the ones above there is nothing wrong. The only thing you have to do, is to see if Google Chrome uses the object tag in your script. If this is the case make the necessary changes to use the applet tag.
In case you do not succeed to manage the changes described above please send us the html source code of your webpage, we shall apply the appropriate changes and send it back to you.
